~ THE LEAST PRAYED PRAYER IN HISTORY ~
I'm willing to bet that you have never prayed that prayer before. I'll also bet that you have never heard your pastor pray that prayer before either. Sadly I'll admit, neither have I. However, the person who wrote that Proverb had the right idea. I'll bet you that God answered that prayer for him and that he did not have to deal with the stress that you are dealing with today. In this day and age no one prays "give me neither poverty nor riches", they just pray the first two words "give me!" Isn't it interesting that this prayer is not asking God for something, but asking God "not" to give him something. Many people seem to have the impression that once they confess Jesus Christ, they instantly have free access to a "Genie in a Bottle", or one on one with "Santa Claus". God's purpose for wanting a relationship with us is not so he can have the privilege of supplying us with "free stuff". (you're thinking of the U.S. government) He did not send his son to die on the cross so that he could forever after supply us with property in one form or another. When Jesus died on the cross, he purchased you and me. "WE ARE THE PROPERTY!" When one owns property, they can do whatever they wish to do with it. What God chose to do with his property was to adopt us as "sons and daughters". Is God awesome or what? Don't misinterpret what I am saying. God absolutely "does" answer prayer, but when you skip the first and most important step, which is having an "intimate friendship" with God, your prayers are less likely to be heard. When you are in the process of building an intimate friendship with God, your prayer for protection will heard, where your prayer to have God make you win the lottery will not. ~ GOD KNOWS WHAT YOU WANT ~ God knows what you want, and God knows what you need. The question is: "Do you know what God wants?" If you don't know the answer to that question, that is why your prayers are not being answered. God can and will heal you. God can and will save your marriage. God can and will financially bless you and make peoples hearts turn in your favor to make things work out to your benefit. God can and will give you the desires of your heart. Psalms 37:4 - Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart. This scripture is very true. If it hasn't worked for you, it is not the scripture that is flawed. Saying "God, please let me win the lottery" is "not" delighting in the Lord. That is simply saying: "Santa, I want a new fire truck for Christmas" or "Santa, I want a new doll". In God's eyes, it's nothing more, nothing less. If you've taken a few years to destroy your marriage (which is considered sacred to God) then take a few seconds to say: "God, please save my marriage", that is "not" delighting in the Lord. What are the desires of your heart? Would you like God to grant them to you? If so, there is a certain order. God did "not" say, I will give you the desires of your heart so you can delight in me. He said the opposite. Delight in the Lord first! ~ HOW DO I DELIGHT IN THE LORD? ~ I can tell you from experience, if you start by talking to him regularly and having a personal, intimate friendship with him, he will take care of the rest, and trust me, you "Will" be delighted. Start looking at every obstacle and problem you have as a wonderful opportunity to open communication with God. God can fix anything, but he's not Santa Claus. He wants a personal relationship with you "FIRST". Some times God allows the obstacles to come into our lives for the very purpose of drawing us closer to him. The sooner you start seeking him, the sooner he can repair your life. Dan Douglass ~ GIVE ONLY WHAT YOU CAN COMFORTABLY AFFORD ~ Make checks or money orders payable to: Last Updated
